October has once again been a busy month! We started off the month making Floppy Scarecrows in small groups, in response to a poem called “The Floppy Floppy Scarecrow” in English!
In SPHE, the children have been learning all about themselves. They made their own identity card with their own photograph, handprint and fingerprint!
In the SESE subject areas, the children enjoyed participating in a hands-on workshop based on Rocks and Soil with the heritage expert, Una Halpin. During the workshop, the children explored various rocks and also the types of rocks we have around the school environment.
The children also enjoyed all of the preparations for Halloween from eating the “bairín breac” in Gaeilge…
dressing up in their Halloween costumes …
playing a Halloween Maths Game called “Spider Drive” with their partner…
and making their own “Marvellous Monsters”.
Finally in Art, the children made their own “Patterned Pumpkins” using printing wands.
Happy Halloween Everybody!!

On Friday, 15th March 2013, the school welcomed Irish author, Martina Murphy to further support literacy development in our school. Martina’s visit coincided with our “Green Day” for St. Patrick’s Weekend which made it all the more enjoyable and of course memorable for the children! During the day, the children actively engaged in storytelling and drama workshops with Martina.
Martina presented each pupil with a Certificate of Achievement to acknowledge their own literature in our “We are Writers” Book!

Thank you Martina for sharing your work with us and in so doing, encouraging the children to further engage in all aspects of literacy!

November has been another busy month for the Junior Classroom. Take a look at all their hard work below!
In Religion, the children have been learning about the Story of Jonah and so they made their own whales out of polystyrene cups!
We have had great fun singing all the well known Nursery Rhymes in Music and the children made their own Nursery Rhyme Booklet of rhymes they have learned.
In English, the children have learned a lot of new letters this month. They even made some “Pretty Paper Peacocks” to support work on the letter “Pp”
We all enjoyed “Looking and Responding” to the work of the American Artist, Georgia O’ Keefe whose most famous paintings were based on flowers. Take a look below at the children’s own interpretations of her floral artwork!
In Drama, Funky Kids have kept us on our toes this month and the children have had great fun designing their own costumes as well as the backdrop for their show. Take a sneak peek below at a sample of what’s in store for you all at the Funky Kids Show on Monday, 10th December and Tuesday, 11th December!
In P.E. the children had their first experience of Gymnastics this year and they really enjoyed all the work on benches and mats
Finally in SPHE, the children learned about their emotions and created their own “Feeling Face” to show us how we can sometimes feel!
Well done to you all for a great month’s work!

In Funky Kids we do lots of fun things, such as painting, playing games, making T-shirts, singing, dancing and having fun.
We are going to put on a show on 25th of March. There will be singing, dancing and ltos more. The people who do this with us are Dennis and Olivia. They go to schools around Ireland to teach the children about Drama. The whole school will be in the show and DVDs of the show will be available afterwards.
