June has been a hectic, but productive month in 2nd and 3rd class! We have crammed a lot of fun activities into our schedule to make it an enjoyable month for all the pupils! In a Visual Arts lesson, we got to tie-dye our own t-shirts and bandanas. Here is a photo of the children modelling their gear!
We also made Father’s Day Trophies for our wonderful Dads! We hope you liked them on the day and have them on show in your houses for all to see!
In Science and Geography, we learned about the solar system, space, the sun, moon and the planets. The children drew wonderful pictures of space using metallic colouring pencils.
In History we learned about the Olympics and also about London. We looked at pictures of various sights around London and drew pictures of many of the sports that will be featured in the Olympic Games this year!
In English, we wrote about our school tour and created little booklets about all the activities we did on the day.
We also learned about Mosaics in History and completed our own dolphin mosaics using tiny pieces of very hard, shiny plastic. These measured only 1/2 centimetre square so the children had to be meticulous in their efforts!
We hope everyone has a really enjoyable Summer!

This May, the children in the Junior Classroom continue to show their talents in all areas of the school curriculum.
There’s been lots of preparation in all subject areas for the 2012 Olympics in London. The children made their own Olympic torches to mark the occasion of the Olympic torch travelling around the United Kingdom and of course making its way to Dublin and Northern Ireland!
We drew our favourite meal as we were learning about the Last Supper in Religion. Take a look at all the delicious meals we like to eat!
In Maths we have been learning about money and we decided to make our own coin rubbings on money boxes and purses!
We also have been learning about the Wright Brothers in History and so we made our own airplanes out of recyclable materials like clothes pegs and lollipop sticks!!
In Science, we have been busy learning about living and non-living things. We read a poem about an alien in a spaceship and we drew something living and non-living from the poem!
We also went on our school tour to Hook Lighthouse at the end of May and when we came back we drew some of our best memories of our tour. Take at look at our lovely drawings below!
Congratulations to Rowan Byrne in 1st Class and Kim Lucas in Senior Infants who were the winners of our In-Class Colouring Competition of a Lighthouse Picture which was given to us to colour by the local artist, Rose Finn at Hook Lighthouse. Here are their completed pictures!
Well done to all the children on all their hard work this month!

Over the past four weeks, Ms. Dawn Cobbe has been teaching the children in 2nd and 3rd class 3-4 lessons a day. She has worked so hard and the children have thoroughly enjoyed the topics, art work, experiments and lessons covered. Here are some photos of topics and work covered over the past few weeks…
Here are some collages of Cú Chulainn completed by the children in Visual Arts using fabric and fibre. The children learned the story of Cú Chulainn in History. They also created scenes in Drama in various groups.
In Geography, the children have been learning about food, where it comes from, how it’s made and the importance of farming in Ireland. This was a really interesting topic for the children, as so many of them grow up on farms!
In Religious Education, the children wrote their own prayers, thanking God for the food, animals and earth which provides so much for us.
In Visual Arts, the children created “Shadow Pictures” depicting silhouettes of various objects.
In History, the children have been learning about the history of the Olympics in various countries, focusing on ancient Greece, the home of the Olympics. In pairs, the children wrote out facts they learned about the lighting of the torch in Olympia. Did you know, years ago, that women were not allowed to take part in the Olympics?
To coincide with Greece, the children studied lines and drew pictures of the Greek God Apollo. Look at their great art work!
Thank you Ms. Cobbe for all your hard work with the children over the past number of weeks. We wish you the very best in your teaching career!

The Story of St. Patrick
Colourful Clocks!
In SESE, the children have been learning about “Animals and their Young”. Their display shows many Spring animals and their young.
The best part of learning about Spring for the children has been having an incubator with six hen’s eggs in the classroom. We’re all hoping we may have a chick or two before Easter!!
The children also made their own nests out of crepe paper with baby chicks inside.
Finally the children went on a Spring Nature Trail in the Discovery Park. We saw bluebells, buttercups, geese, deer, ducks and so much more!
Thank you to Ms Dunphy for all her hard work during Teaching Practice. We wish her every success and happiness in her future teaching career!

In SPHE, the children learned all about our emotions and as an art activity they designed a paper plate puppet which has a two sided face displaying two different emotions. Look at their emotional puppets!
In English, the children have been busy learning their February “WOW” words which is part of the school’s strategy in further developing literacy in our school!
