April Activities in the Middle Room!

Date posted: 11th April 2014 | Category Blog, Class Work, Easter, English, Middle Classroom, Music, Visual Arts |

It has certainly been a busy April and now that Easter is almost here, we have been extra busy with lots of fun and games in the middle room!  Have a look at what we have been up to….

In Science, the children have been focusing on Electricity and Magnetism.  The 1st and 2nd Class children had opportunities to explore if magnets worked through various materials!  The 3rd Class had the challenge of building simple circuits and also making buzzers work using a simple circuit….

In Visula Arts and Music, we read the story of “The Willow Pattern”, a story about 2 young Chinese people who fell in love and were turned into doves.  The children designed their own Willow Pattern plates.  Do you have some Willow Pattern in your house?  Have a look at the design on the plate if you do and see if you can spot the doves in the sky!

We also made some Easter treats to take home…

As an Easter craft activity, we made Easter Chicks using wool.  They certainly are very bright chicks!

The children also designed their own, unique Easter eggs which are still displayed on the wall of our clasroom…

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter from the boys and girls in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class!

Although we are only in school for two weeks of April we have been busy in the Senior classes! In science we looked at different water birds found in Ireland. We had fun looking at videos of gannets diving into the ocean. We also learned about Mute, Whooper and Bewick’s Swans, cormorants, oystercatchers, dunlins and herring gulls.

In art we made Easter Wreathes using bright pastel colours to paint them.

In English we wrote acrostic poems based on the word SPRING. Here are our poems on display in our classroom.

We think the mums in our class rock! With this in mind we made characters from rocks for our mums for Mother’s Day.

We have also enjoyed playing basketball with our coach Joe Byrne for the past number of weeks.

It’s game time!

March in the Senior Room

Date posted: 24th March 2013 | Category Blog, Easter, History, Science, Senior Classroom, Visual Arts |

It has been a busy month in 4th, 5th and 6th class. We have been working hard in all subject areas. Here is some of our work on display.

In art we painted St. Patrick’s Day shamrocks using different items to create texture. We used thinks like toothbrushes, glue spreaders, finger stampers and lollipop sticks.

For Easter we painted and decorated our own Fabergé style eggs.

We drew these distorted stars and coloured them in silver and blue and gold and bronze.

In Science we learned about various birds and the different types of nests they build. We wrote up our findings and then went on a walk around the school grounds to see if we could spot any nests. There were none to be seen in the school grounds but we did spot some crows nesting in trees across the road.

In History we learned about The Industrial  Rvolution which happened in Britain in the 1800s. In groups we did a mini project on this topic.

The Easter celebrations started early in the middle room this year!  We have been busy writing eggciting (!) stories for a start!  They are on our classroom wall, where everyone can read them…

We had an in-class “Design an Easter Egg Competition”.  The results were very impressive as you can see from the lovely display of eggs on the wall…

And here are the winners with their eggs and their prizes!  Well done boys and girls!

We also made some chocolate nests with mini eggs as a treat after all the work over the past few weeks…

In Art, we learned how to weave paper to complete “Easter Rabbits” using special Easter paper and plain paper…

Happy Easter from the Middle Room!
