Art in the Senior Classes

Date posted: 24th November 2011 | Category Blog, Senior Classroom, Visual Arts |

In art the senior classes have been working hard. In the past few weeks we have painted beautiful trees covered in snow.

We also made pictures of a lightening storm. We painted the background, clouds and lightening. Then we cut out a city skyline before sticking everything down.

These pictures are on display in the school, please come in and have a look!

Hallowe’en Fun in 2nd & 3rd Class

We really enjoyed doing lots of art and craft for Hallowe’en in our classroom.  We made some masks using feathers, glittery paper and Hallowe’en shapes.  Can you guess who’s hiding behind them?  We also made some chocolate apples covered in hundreds and thousands.  It was great fun!

The finished product…

We also made Frankensteins with moving arms and legs.

Happy Hallowe’en everybody!

It has been a busy few weeks in the senior classroom. We have been doing lots of work on the topic of Hallowe’en.

In English we wrote essays on Magical Spells and Scary Nights.

In art we made sparkling fireworks from kitchen rolls and splatter painted a colourful background.

In Gaeilge we read a story about Oíche Shamhna and drew these spooky pictures.

Happy Hallowe’en to all, enjoy the break!

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class have been busy this September!

To begin with, all the children started off  the year as Superheroes and Princesses!

We then supported the Kilkenny Team with our Liam McCarthy Cups!

During the month, we learned the letter “s”  so we made our own “Scarecrow Paper Bags”

In Irish and English, we learned about “The Gingerbread Man” so we had great fun designing our own “Buachaillín Sinséir” in art.

To celebrate Autumn, the children made their own Paper Plate Mouse after learning the poem “I think mice are rather nice”

Finally, the children made their own Handprint Autumn Tree. Who would ever think that paint on hands could make such beautiful art!!

Autumn Art

Date posted: 27th September 2011 | Category Blog, Our Work on Display, Senior Classroom, Visual Arts | Tagged , , , |

Autumn is here again and the boys and girls in the senior room have taken inspiration from the beautiful autumn trees around our school in Castlecomer for their art.

First we painted a blue and green background, then our tree. Next we used wooden blocks and cotton wool to print on leaves in autumn colours yellow, orange, red and brown. They really brighten up our classroom!
