Geography

Geography is taught to all classes. We use the Interactive Whiteboards, computers and software when teaching geography. We are very lucky to be situated 5 minutes from the Discovery Park in Castlecomer where we often go on nature walks.

Traffic Surveyors at the Wandesforde National School

On Wednesday, 25th May, Junior & Senior Infants worked very hard as traffic surveyors in Castlecomer to support work covered in class on the topic of Transport.

The children were given either a form of transport or a colour which they had to keep watch for in the traffic that passed by the school gates from 9:40-10am that morning.

The children had great fun watching for their colour and type of vehicle!

All the results were recorded onto a clipboard.

The results of the traffic survey were that the most frequent form of transport passing the school was a car! Not only this, but the most common colour to pass the school was silver!

The children really enjoyed their duties as traffic surveyors and they did a fantastic job of it as the photographs tell!

Third Class completed research projects on topics of their choice.  They thoroughly enjoyed finding the information, putting the project together with lots of interesting facts and pictures.

The boys completed their projects on “Cattle” and “Sheep”.  As a teacher, I learned so much about these animals as I do not live on a farm!  Well done boys….

The girls completed their projects on “The Famine in Ireland”, “Dance” and “Bugs”.  They did wonderful work.  Well done girls!

Green Fingers!

In 1st, 2nd and 3rd class, we planted cress seeds…

We placed the cress near sunlight and watered the seeds each day.  One pot was not watered and remained covered to show that plants needs sunlight and water to grow!

We also checked our vegetables in the garden of our  school in Castlecomer.  Here is a very small parsnip!
