Middle Classroom

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd class pupils are taught by Mrs. Peavoy. We love to do art and craft, play sports and sing songs. Our favourite activity is baking! Here we are baking oatmeal raisin cookies. Everyone loves to help out mixing, weighing and of course eating them!

We have had a very busy month, preparing for Mother’s Day and discussing the topic of Spring!  Here are our Spring paintings!  Paintings include scenes of flowers, new life and also the busy farmers in the fields, ploughing…..

For Mother’s Day, the children made flower baskets, with absolutely no help at all!  They used oasis, greenery from the school garden, daffodils and chrysanthemums.  They did a wonderful job!

We hope all the Mums liked their flowers!

A different kind of Maths Lesson!

During the month of March, 3rd class children were learning about weight and capacity in their Maths lesson.  On one of the pages, there were questions based on “Emma’s Kitchen” and part of the activity included following a recipe to make Queen Cakes, so that’s exactly what we did!

The children weighed out the ingredients using a scale, mixed it up and put the mixture into bun cases…

Of course, the 2nd class helped to eat the finished product, along with the 3rd class!

On Friday, 23rd March 2012, local author, David Donohue visited our school as part of the Writer’s in School Scheme to promote literacy in schools. Over the past few weeks the children have been busy reading and listening to his novels: Walter Speazlebud, Alien Timebomb and Moon Man.

The children really enjoyed David’s storytelling workshop and of course the highlight of the workshop was spelling words backwards for David and also hearing David say their own names backwards!!

Many children received their own cerificate for spelling backwards from David.

Thank you to David for also presenting the star book token to the winners of the In-School Art Competition. It made the children’s day to have their full name called out backwards as well as receive an award from a well known author!!
