September in the Senior Room

Welcome back everybody to a new school year! September has been a very busy month for us all.

In SPHE, the children designed their own Mandala to express their uniqueness and individuality.

They also created their own “All About Me” Iphone Worksheet

In preparation for the Rugby World Cup in Japan, we explored the flags and jerseys of the teams participating in the tournament. We also looked at statistics of teams who had won in previous World Cup Competitions. With all of this information, we made our own predictions as to who will win the 2019 World Cup Title!

The children explored facial features in Art and completed the other half of these faces! You may recognise some political leaders amongst them!!

Following on from this art lesson, the children drew their own Self Portraits from a photograph of themselves. Didn’t they do a fantastic job!

The children explored many Irish Myths and Legends in History this month. In response to the Children of Lir, they created their own storyboard with a partner.

We welcomed Orla Bates, a Heritage in Schools Expert to our school in September. Orla engaged the children in a Pigment Painting Workshop whereby they made their own paints using soil pigments and binder. They then created some wonderful Stone Age Soil Paintings in their groups!

In Drama, the children engaged in many co-operative games. They particularly enjoyed the M&M Game as it involved them getting to know each other while eating a packet of M&Ms! Mmmmmm!

The children engaged in Recount Writing in English and wrote up a report of their Summer Holidays!

We were very lucky to be treated to a theatrical production of the Wizard of Oz at our school on the last day of September. The Senior Classroom not only enjoyed watching the performance but also were engaged in a workshop on Costume & Set Design as well as Sound, Lighting & Stage Production!

Well done to all the children for all their hard work during their first month back at school!
