WORK TO DO AT HOME – INFANT CLASSES

Hi everyone,

Firstly and most importantly I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. As it looks like we won’t be back before Easter I’ve put together some work for the pupils to complete. There are some worksheets to print but if you don’t have a printer at home no worries just use paper, copies etc

Junior Infants:

Phonics – complete sounds sh, th and revise the 6 sounds up to page 70 of the book. (I think I sent this book home if not practice writing the sounds and come up with some words that contain those sounds & read them) You can check out “Geraldine the Giraffe” on Youtube. We often watch this in class and the children will be familiar with her. Just search for her on Youtube Geraldine the Giraffe sh etc

We also learn the Jolly Phonics Jingles to go with each sound these are on Youtube as well.

Maths – practice writing numbers 1, 2, 3,4 ,5 (worksheets available on www.twinkl.ie if you are unable to print worksheets just practice on ordinary paper) Recently we were learning ordinal numbers so the children could practice lining up toys and telling you which is 1st and last. They could also practice drawing different amounts of things you ask them to. Also children could go to the garden and collect you different amounts of things e.g. find me 5 twigs, find me 3 daisies etc

Senior Infants:

Phonics – complete the next 3 sounds in Phonics book ue, er, ar pgs. 68-73 Like Junior Infants you can check out “Geraldine the Giraffe” on Youtube. Just search for her on Youtube Geraldine the Giraffe er etc

Practice reading words that contain these letter sounds and you could call out some simple words for the pupils to write out. These can contain all the letter sounds they’ve done to date e.g. mat, sun, ring, pair, coin, shout etc pgs 62-63  have examples of words.

Maths – practice writing numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (worksheets available on www.twinkl.ie if you are unable to print worksheets just practice on ordinary paper) Recently we were learning addition, totals up to 9 so they could do some sums and use toys etc to help (we use counters in class so the children will probably need some concrete materials to help them with this) you can make these up. Also like Junior Infants go out and find different amounts of things in the garden or ask the children to find 2D shapes in the environment e.g. what shape are doors, road signs etc. they could also find the longest stick and shortest, or find tall and short flowers.

Both classes:

***to practice sounds children can play simple games, write sounds on cards, turn them upside down and say them when they turn them over. If they don’t know them they put them back, if they do they keep the card. Senior Infants could do this with their ‘Tricky Words’ cards too. If you have play doh make the letter sounds/words from it. Read story books and spot the sounds and words in them.

SESE – we broadly follow the book ‘Explore with Me’

Go to Explore with Me Junior Infants and bring up book. They can look at pages 40, 41, 42 Click on the animation at the top of the page watch and discuss.

Go out for a nature walk and see what signs of Spring children can spot. Spring flowers, ploughed fields, nests being built, buds on trees, blossom on trees, baby animals in fields etc. There is a ‘Spring Hunt’ sheet on www.twinkl.ie if you’d like to use it.

Children could also draw a picture of Spring for me, I’d love to see them when we do get back to school. 🙂

Art – draw Easter egg templates. Children can make their own designs for them using Spring images or patterns with lines and shapes. They can colour or paint them in – parents choice there!!

Education publishers are all offering free access to online books, details below if you’d like to look up some examples of books for ideas. No pressure to do this just resources you may find useful.

Hopefully we will be back in school soon, I’m looking forward to seeing you all again and hearing how you all are. Mums and dads this is a guideline to try and keep some routine and structure there for the children, if they could do something everyday to keep in touch with school work that’d be great.

In the meantime take care, hopefully this will be over soon and we’ll be back in Wandesforde in the near future.
