Christmas

Christmas is a busy time at the school. We send the Christmas shoeboxes in November, we are then busy practising for our Christmas play and Carol Service, sometimes we go carol singing or have a Christmas fair. We also have a Christmas party and Santa comes and if we are good, we each get a goody bag.

Happy Christmas from the Junior Classroom!

During December, the children in the Junior Classroom have been busy preparing for Christmas!

Here are some pictures of our festive preparations!

We posted our letters to Santa in the Post Office 🙂

Look at all the very happy and excited faces in the Junior Classroom!

We had great fun decorating our classroom for Christmas. The children coloured in their Christmas Stocking which we hung around our Classroom Christmas Tree!

We made our own Snowmen using cotton wool!

In Religion, we all drew a different picture of what makes Christmas so special. Amongst these pictures, there is a picture of Santa, a candy cane, presents, a Christmas Tree and above all, there are pictures of the most important part of Christmas-Baby Jesus.

In Art, we made our own little elves out of paper plates. Aren’t they very cute!!

In art we created these Christmas Stars, weaving paper to create a pattern in the middle.

We also made snowmen on paper plates using cotton wool and glitter.

Finally on Friday we lit all the candles on our Advent Wreath as we won’t be in school to do it next week.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all in the Senior Room!

See you in 2014!!

Happy Christmas from 1st, 2nd & 3rd Class!

December has been a busy month for all of us!  For the past number of weeks we have been busy practising for the Christmas play which was held yesterday in St. Mary’s Church, Castlecomer.  Afterwards, we had a party in school and a visit from Santa Claus!

When we were not practising, we were busy in our classroom doing lots of fun things in preparation for the festive season.  We made Advent Wreaths and discussed all about this important time in the Church year.

In English, the children in 2nd and 3rd class wrote wonderful Acrostic Poems using the word “CHRISTMAS”.  Some children even made their poems rhyme!

In Visual Arts, we made Christmas Stockings and learned how to do a simple stitch.  We decorated them with our initials and some sparkly embellishments!

We also made decorations for our Christmas trees at home, using a white, paper clay.  When they were dry, we painted them and attached ribbon to hang them up…

In Gaeilge, we learned lots of new vocabulary based on “An Nollaig”.

The children learned 2 new Christmas songs called “Bualadh Bos” and “Crann Nollag” and also a poem called “Tá San Nioclás ag Teacht”.  We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Advent Arrives in 4th, 5th and 6th Class

Date posted: 4th December 2013 | Category Blog, Christmas, Religious Education, Senior Classroom |

4th, 5th and 6th Class have been learning all about Advent this week. We read some information telling us all about the customs and origins of Advent. We wrote up the information we learned.

We also read about the Advent Wreath. We learned why it is circular and how many candles are on it and their colours. We then went out to the school grounds and collected some evergreen leaves such as ivy, holly and fir branches. Each pupil then put some leaves into an oasis to make our own wreath.

Finally we have our Advent Calendar. Each day a pupil gets a chance to pick a treat from it!

A huge thank you to all the families who sent in a shoebox as part of the “Team Hope Shoebox Appeal 2013”.  We had a total of 48 shoeboxes for boys and girls in other countries who do not have as much as we do!  Thank you once again.  Here is a picture of the boys and girls with the shoeboxes before they head off on their journey to foreign lands!
