Junior Classroom – Chinese Dragons

We have lovely bright classrooms and we regularly display the children’s work for parents and visitors to look at. As you can see from the blog posts, we are a busy school, learning lots of new and exciting things every day.
Adam: I learned about the Chinese New Year. I really enjoyed making our dragons and saying our poem.
For the past few weeks we have been learning about the Irish famine. We found out that half of the population of Ireland either emigrated or died. All of the potatoes died from blight and people sometimes had to eat grass and nettles. 1847 was the worst year of the famine, knwn as ‘Black ’47’….
We all designed book covers for the book ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ which was about a family that lived in famine times in the mid nineteenth century.
On 20th December, Flight Lieutenant David Start visited the Middle Classroom to talk about his job as a pilot in the RAF. David showed us where he works in Wales, the plane he flies (a hawk) and we also all took turns to try on a helmet and Ms Dennehy took pictures of each of…
