A Fun Run and a Marathon!!!

We have been very active in Wandesforde National School this week! As part of our fundraising efforts over the past few weeks, we have been training hard to comfortably run 2 km. On Thursday, 21st October, our efforts and training paid off and the whole school walked to Castlecomer Community School to use the running track and complete our 2 km challenge. The children did a wonderful job and achieved their goal on the sunny, chilly morning. Here are some photos from the day!

The Infants were the first to complete a lap of the 440 metre track and they absolutely flew it!! The rest of the school cheered them on and then the favour was returned!

The Middle room and Senior room were up next to complete their 5 laps! Staff joined in too!

We were delighted to have a surprise visit from Joyce Byrne who came to cheer us on too! The children wished her the best as she was preparing for her Marathon run on Sunday!

On Sunday, 24th October, the sun was shining once again as lots of people gathered early in the morning to cheer Joyce off on her 42.2 km run in aid of St. Luke’s Intensive Care Unit and Wandesforde NS.

Joyce set off at 9.30 am and had plenty of support and cheers along the way as she managed to pass many of the children’s houses along the route!

There was a great crowd to welcome Joyce home after completing her run!

Joyce, well done and thank you for doing this and raising so much money for the ICU and our school. We will have a total soon! We are so proud of you!
