Merry Christmas from the Middle Room!

November and December have been very busy months in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class!  The children have worked hard and have learned a lot.  Have a look at what we have been up to!

In Religious Education, we learned all about the life and work of St. Francis.

In Geography, we learned all about aerial views of towns and our school.  We then drew our own aerial views of our bedrooms and gardens…

In Art, we learned all about the life and paintings of the famous artist Henri Matisse.  The children then recreated their own works of art in the Matisse style…

We also learned about Totem Poles in Art.  Did you know that the 5 animals on the Totem pole stand for different powers such as wisdom, healing, strength, bravery and wealth?  They are very colourful on the wall!

We discussed warm and cool colours of the colour spectrum and created “Leaping Lizards” using either warm or cool colours…

In English we read a poem called “The Farmyard” and illustrated some of the animals mentioned in the poem…

We wrote letters to Santa Claus and posted them in our local post Office!

We also wrote Christmas Acrostic poems…

We made holly wreaths with berries using hand templates….

We had our Christmas Nativity Play on Tuesday, 17th December.  It was called “The Inn Crowd” and the children did a wonderful job on the night!  Well done to all!

We made sock snowmen in art.  Don’t they look very cosy with their woollen scarves?

We learned lots of new words in Gaeilge based on “An Nollag”

On Thursday, 19th December, Santa Claus came to visit the children with a treat for everyone!  Such a lovely surprise, especially when he has so much to do at this time of the year!
