Autumn Fun in the Midddle Room!

September and October have been full of fun and activities in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class.  The Summer holidays are a distant memory for us all now and we have certainly settled back in to our new classes!  2nd and 3rd Class children wrote about their Summer in English, while the 1st Class pupils drew a “snapshot” of their Summer memories…

In SPHE we discussed friendship and the many things our friends do to help us in school and in our lives.  The children drew wonderful pictures and we created a poster…

In Visual Arts we created “Funky Faces” and “Slithering Snakes” .  Don’t they look great on the wall?

We were very fortunate to have 2 visitors to the school in the last few weeks, providing their expertise and knowledge through a workshop for the children.  The first visitor was Fiona from Dogs’ Trust, a charity that you all may know, that encourages families to provide a home to abandoned dogs.  We learned lots from Fiona about how to care for these loving pets and also received a pencil and a picture to colour.  Thank you Fiona for visiting Wandesforde National School!

Our second visitor was Una Halpin, who came to the school to do a workshop on rocks and fossils with the children.  The children had ample opportunities to freely explore the various rocks, gems and fossils that Una brought in her suitcase!  Thank you Una for a very informative lessson and thank you to Ms. Wilson for organising this workshop through the Heritage in Schools Scheme.

During the month of October the children dug up the vegetables in the school garden…

Mrs. Dooley and the 6th class children made wedges for the whole school.  Thank you all very much!  They were delicious!

As Hallowe’en is approaching, we had to all have some “Bairin Breac”, and of course all the children wanted to find the “Fainne”…

Well done to this lucky pupil, who found the ring!

We all got dressed up on Friday, 24th October and had a non-uniform day to rasie money for the school tour next year.  Can you spot any vampires or witches in the picture?

And finally, here are a few pictures of the Hallowe’en art completed by the children over the past few weeks.  We hope you all enjoy the mid-term break and see you all in November!
