A New Year Begins in the Junior Room

Welcome back to everyone in the Junior Room and a special welcome to our five new Junior Infants!

We have been busy in our first month of school, in English we have been learning new sounds with Juniors and revising last years ones with Seniors. We practiced writing them with pencils, on whiteboards and even in shaving foam!

We were delighted to welcome artist Orla Bates to do some printing with us. We made prints of lots of garden birds and Orla brought us outside where we made a nest just like birds do!

In Play we were learning all about houses and homes. We made houses from play doh and in the sand, we made household items in junk art, played with houses in small world and we constructed houses using magnets and polydrons.

We made patterns of houses and created different types of homes such as apartments, houses and terraces of houses in art.

In Science we also learned which items use electricity in our homes.

We have learned lots of different Nursery Rhymes this month and practiced our pencil control and scissors skills doing activities about the rhymes.

We learned about school in RE and coloured in school related items as well as saying a prayer thanking God for our school.

We were really excited to welcome M and M Productions back to perform The Wizard of Oz. It was a super show which we all really liked 🙂
