A Great Start to the New Year in the Junior Classroom!

The New Year has well and truly begun by now and it has been a topic the children have enjoyed this January. In support of it, the children made their own New Year’s Hat for all the celebrations!

In History, the children enjoyed drawing pictures to give the class a snapshot of their Winter Break!

The whole class made a Class Calendar for the New Year in Maths and they then recorded their birthdays and school holidays on it so we can see what’s happening in the weeks and months ahead!

In Geography, the children explored the theme of Winter and designed their own snowflakes using glitter. They also practised their cutting skills!

The children have had great fun learning about flight in Science. In particular, they really enjoyed making their own loop airplanes which they tested outside just to see how far they can travel!!

In Gaeilge, the children have been exploring the theme “An Aimsir” They drew their own pictures of the different weather forms as a listening and responding exercise!

During the month, the children participated in the Local Deenside Players’ Art Competition for the Pantomime “Pirates of the Caribbean”. They all did a fantastic job on their pictures as you can see from the pictures below!

A big congratulations to Aoife Cafolla in Senior Infants who was one of the winners in the competition and whose artwork is now printed in the pantomime programme!

In Maths, the children engaged in a new number game called “The Dice Game” which they thoroughly enjoyed playing with their friends and family!

Finally in SPHE, the children made their own family shields showing pictures of what makes their families special!

Well done to all the children on all their hard work this January. It’s been a great start to a New Year!
