Jingle all the way with the Juniors!

The children in the Junior Room have been very busy during the month of December. To begin with in Play we explored Santa’s Workshop.

We made Christmas trees in Junk Art.
Making a Post Box for letters to Santa.
Building Santa’s Sleigh in Construction.
Wrapping presents in Role Play.
Making Rudolph from Play Doh
A Play Doh Christmas Tree

In SESE we learned all about penguins. We were also busy discovering some facts about the season of Winter. We circled signs of Winter in pictures and listened to instructions to draw a snowman.

We also explored freezing and melting this month, we looked at ice and described how it looked and felt, then we placed ice in different parts of our classroom to see where it melted fastest and recorded what happened.

It was freezing, smooth, hard and watery.

We made Christmas Robins and Rudolph in Art.

In RE we learned all about Advent and the story of the birth of Jesus.

In Maths we coloured Christmas pictures by numbers and Senior Infants drew Rudolph in lots of different places as they had been learning lots of positional words.

Senior Infants were also learning about 3D Shapes and made these graphs.

They are learning more Tricky Words each week.

In SPHE we have been exploring our sense of taste. We tasted different foods which were sweet, salty, sour and bitter and recorded if we liked them or not.

In our school play ‘The Inn Crowd’ the children performed in many different roles including sheep, wise men, shepherds and angels. They also sang lots of songs during the show.

Finally a very special visitor arrived before the holidays……..SANTA!!!!

We were delighted he popped in with some treats for us all before the Christmas break. 🙂

On the last day we had a chilled out morning watching a DVD.

Merry Christmas to everyone from all in the Junior Room, see you in 2020!
