Physical Education

Physical Education is taught by the class teacher for 1 hour each week. The children are very fortunate to have other coaches and experts visit the school to teach soccer and basketball. We also attend swimming for a period of 8-10 weeks in the Summer term.

We have a lot of sports equipment in our school. Some days when it is dry and sunny we take out the skittles and soft bowling ball and play games of bowling and skittles.  It’s a lot of fun. I enjoy playing it with my friends.

Dodge Ball

Dodgeball is great fun. We have to try and hit the people on the other team with the ball but the difficult bit is it has to be under their knees.

If you are hit under the knee, you have to go to jail behind the other team. To get out of jail, you have to catch the ball and throw it to your own team, if someone catches it, you can be released from jail.

The winning team is the one that has the least number of people in jail.

Hurling

In our school we have a huge variety of sports equipment. Every so often our teacher takes us outside to play sport.

My favourite sport is hurling. We have a number of hurleys in our shcool so we usually play in groups. The school has a number of different coloured hurling helmets too. Safety plays a huge part in our school.

We receive hurling training from coach Brian O’Brien, he comes to our school every year so each child can take part in learning how to hurl. Brian is a fantastic coach and the hurling training is hugely enjoyed by all the children in the school. On the days that he is coaching, everyone brings in their own hurl.  If a child forgets or doesn’t have one, they are given one for the training.

Hurling is an extremely enjoyable sport and it is fantastic for our health and fitness.

Many thanks to the Board of Management for treating the children and ensuring they are learning lots of new sporting skills, keeping fit and having good fun.

The Wilson Soccer Coaching will be doing a 4 day soccer coaching camp at Easter from 10am-2pm at the very reasonable cost of €50 per child. Please contact Miss Wilson if you would like to take part.
