Physical Education

Physical Education is taught by the class teacher for 1 hour each week. The children are very fortunate to have other coaches and experts visit the school to teach soccer and basketball. We also attend swimming for a period of 8-10 weeks in the Summer term.

November has been another busy month for the Junior Classroom. Take a look at all their hard work below!

In Religion, the children have been learning about the Story of Jonah and so they made their own whales out of polystyrene cups!

We have had great fun singing all the well known Nursery Rhymes in Music and the children made their own Nursery Rhyme Booklet of rhymes they have learned.

In English, the children have learned a lot of new letters this month. They even made some “Pretty Paper Peacocks” to support work on the letter “Pp”

We all enjoyed “Looking and Responding” to the work of the American Artist, Georgia O’ Keefe whose most famous paintings were based on flowers. Take a look below at the children’s own interpretations of her floral artwork!

In Drama, Funky Kids have kept us on our toes this month and the children have had great fun designing their own costumes as well as the backdrop for their show. Take a sneak peek below at a sample of what’s in store for you all at the Funky Kids Show on Monday, 10th December and Tuesday, 11th December!

In P.E. the children had their first experience of Gymnastics this year and they really enjoyed all the work on benches and mats

Finally in SPHE, the children learned about their emotions and created their own “Feeling Face” to show us how we can sometimes feel!

Well done to you all for a great month’s work!

It was an eventful day as all the children cheered on Kilkenny and waved their flags whilst wearing Vintage Clothing for our Bishop’s Charity Tour! The photographs below are proof of how delighted the children were to meet the players and of course, hold the Liam McCarthy Cup!!

A big thank you to the Kilkenny Hurling Team for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit us all at Wandesforde School!

Lots of determined faces…..

The children were each given an ice-cream to cool down after all that work!

And of course each child got a gold medal as they are all winners!   Well done everybody!

Go Ireland Go!!

Date posted: 12th June 2012 | Category Blog, Junior Classroom, Physical Education, Soccer, Sports |

As part of the Junior Classroom’s preparation for Euro 2012, the children have been learning all the flags of the teams competing in the football competition. Take a look at their flags!

As well as learning the flags of the countries in Euro 2012, the children had to predict which team they think would win Euro 2012.

Here is a breakdown of their predictions so hopefully we will have a winner in our Class Euro 2012  Competition!!

11 children predicted Ireland would win, 2 children predicted that Germany would win, 2 children predicted that Spain would win , 1 child predicted that England would win, 1 child predicted Denmark would win, 1 child predicted Greece would win and 1 child predicted Italy would win.

We made our own cups with “green, white and gold” streamers on them to support the Irish Team!

Go Ireland Go!!!

We’re really hoping that Ireland wins Euro 2012!
