A few members of the Kilkenny team dropped in for a very short visit today, Thursday 8th September, at 2.45 pm.  They had a very busy day, visiting local schools with the Liam McCarthy cup!  Martin Fogarty, a selector for the team introduced the local heroes to us all.  We also got their autograph for all the boys and girls.  Well done Kilkenny, we are very proud of you!!!!

On Friday, 2nd September 2011, Junior Infants, Senior Infants & First Class made their own Liam McCarthy Cup and waved the Kilkenny Colours to the traffic passing through Castlecomer!

The children really enjoyed the acknowledgement they received from passing traffic.

We’re hoping the Real Liam McCarthy Cup will be back in Kilkenny this year!!

We have hurls in our school as well as helmets and lots of sliotars.

Brian O Ni Brien coems in to our school every second year to teach us hurling.  He teaches us skills, how to hit it and how to pick up the sliotar.   We play games after we practise our skills and hitting the sliotar.  He is a very good teacher.

I think hurling is a good sport and I like it very much and I would like to play it more often. It is a really hard sport but I still like it.

In our school we have a huge variety of sports equipment. Every so often our teacher takes us outside to play sport.

My favourite sport is hurling. We have a number of hurleys in our shcool so we usually play in groups. The school has a number of different coloured hurling helmets too. Safety plays a huge part in our school.

We receive hurling training from coach Brian O’Brien, he comes to our school every year so each child can take part in learning how to hurl. Brian is a fantastic coach and the hurling training is hugely enjoyed by all the children in the school. On the days that he is coaching, everyone brings in their own hurl.  If a child forgets or doesn’t have one, they are given one for the training.

Hurling is an extremely enjoyable sport and it is fantastic for our health and fitness.
