Christmas

Christmas is a busy time at the school. We send the Christmas shoeboxes in November, we are then busy practising for our Christmas play and Carol Service, sometimes we go carol singing or have a Christmas fair. We also have a Christmas party and Santa comes and if we are good, we each get a goody bag.

A Delightful December in the Senior Room

December has been an eventful month for 4th, 5th & 6th Class. In Art we created colourful winter trees and highlighted them in gold and silver. We also shaded in our Christmas stars using different colour paints.

The preparation for Christmas is known as Advent and in Religious Education we learned all about this important time of year. We also made our own Advent Wreath and each pupil put some greenery in it. To mark Advent we also have an Advent Calendar with each pupil getting a treat from it during December.

An Nollaig was our theme in Gaeilge and we made our own Cartaí Nollaig and wrote poems ‘as Gaeilge’ based on the topic An Nollaig.

In English 4th Class read all about spiders and wrote up reports about them.

They also read The Apple Tree and illustrated all the things which got stuck to the tree.

5th and 6th Class read a story called ‘Christmas’ and completed character investigation sheets about the main character Jimeen in the story.

We performed our play ‘Hosanna Rock’ in St. Mary’s on the 21st. Well done to all the boys and girls on a great performance. Finally a special visitor came to see us on Monday …… Santa!! We all enjoyed his visit and gifts! 🙂

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all in the Senior Room! See you in 2016!!

December Fun in the Middle Room!

Date posted: 5th January 2015 | Category Blog, Christmas, Class Work, English, Middle Classroom, Religious Education, Special Occasions, Visual Arts |

Christmas is almost over and we hope you all had a very relaxing time with family and friends!  The children in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class were very busy during the month of December as you will see from the following pictures!

In English the children in 3rd class were learning all about “Hair”!  As a poetry exercise, the children had to write a poem using “hair” words and ensure the words were styled in a hair style!

The 1st class children wrote a poem about a monster called “Rocky”.  This was a joint effort and the children then drew their own monsters!

We wrote our letters to Santa and posted them in the local post office!  We were very lucky to receive a letter from Santa, despite his busy schedule!  Rudolph signed the letter also!

We had fun making Christmas cookies!

We made Advent Stars using pasta shapes and beads and then sprayed them gold or silver!

We made Christmas cards and snowflakes!  Did you know that no 2 snowflakes are the same?

We also made Christmas decorations and put them in gift bags for our family and friends!

Santa paid us a visit before the holidays!  I hope you all were well behaved and got a few surprises!

Happy New Year to you all!

Happy Christmas Everybody from the Junior Classroom!

December has been a very busy month for the school. We had our Funky Kids Show the week of the Christmas Holidays which the children really enjoyed!

The children did a fantastic job on both nights! Well done to you all! Thank You to Denis and Olivia for all their time, patience and energy in the production of yet another great show!

In preparation for Christmas, we first posted our letters to Santa in the Post Office.

We also drew Christmas Pictures for our penpals in Finland

and we played “Reindeer Drive” with our partners in Maths.

We listened to the story of “The Gingerbread Man” in English and explored the theme further by making our very own Gingerbread Men!

Firstly, we made the dough and then used cutters to create the shape of the Gingerbread Man!

We all had a job to do in baking these delicious treats!

In Art, we painted and designed our own Gingerbread Men using metallic paints!

This month, the children have also been learning about penguins and their habitat in SESE. In support of this, we made penguins using toilet roll inserts!

Did you know that a baby penguin is called a “chick”

In R.E. the children created their own Angels from the Christmas Story!

You might just recognise these angels!!

Finally, the children upcycled some old CDs to make their very own Sparkly Christmas Tree Decorations!

Well done to all the children on a great month’s work. Enjoy the Christmas Break and we’ll see you all in 2015 🙂

Christmas Fun in the Senior Room!

Date posted: 19th December 2014 | Category Blog, Christmas, English, Irish, Religious Education, Senior Classroom, Visual Arts |

December certainly has been busy with lots of activities completed by the senior pupils this month. At the beginning of the month we baked delicious brownies.

In English we read all about polar bears and wrote up some facts that we learned.

In Gaeilge we were focused on the topic ‘An Nollaig.’ We learned the poem Oíche Nollag and illustrated around it listening to the instructions in Irish.

We also learned about the Jesse Tree in Religion. A Jesse Tree  tells the story of God’s relationship with the world up until the birth of Jesus. Each symbol represents a story from the Old Testament and each star represents a pupil in our class.

We were busy in art class too. First we painted these frosty winter trees.

We made these wreaths using tissue paper and bells made from glitter. We also made our own baubles to hang on our trees at home!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from 4th, 5th & 6th Class!

During December, the children in the Junior Classroom have been busy preparing for Christmas!

Here are some pictures of our festive preparations!

We posted our letters to Santa in the Post Office 🙂

Look at all the very happy and excited faces in the Junior Classroom!

We had great fun decorating our classroom for Christmas. The children coloured in their Christmas Stocking which we hung around our Classroom Christmas Tree!

We made our own Snowmen using cotton wool!

In Religion, we all drew a different picture of what makes Christmas so special. Amongst these pictures, there is a picture of Santa, a candy cane, presents, a Christmas Tree and above all, there are pictures of the most important part of Christmas-Baby Jesus.

In Art, we made our own little elves out of paper plates. Aren’t they very cute!!
