Fundraising Activities

We have an active Parents’ Association with 8 parents on the committee. As a school and staff we try to have a variety of fundraising activities planned for each year. They include bag-packing in a local supermarket, a sponsored cycle for children and adults, non-uniform days and other events. The senior classes enjoy organising coffee evenings and cake sales for local charities.

Today has been a crazy day in school and anyone who has visited or called has been treated to a spectacular display of crazy hairdos!  The children throughout the school used their imagination, put their creativity to the test and came in with a variety of fantastic colours, styles and wigs!  Have a look at some of the photos taken throughout the morning!

Date posted: 24th March 2013 | Category Blog, Fundraising Activities, Middle Classroom, Senior Classroom |

On Friday March 22nd we held our annual Coffee Morning and Cake Sale and this year 3rd class also had a Book Sale. The event was a great success, we raised €753.24 from the Coffee Morning and Cake Sale and €192.36 from the Book Sale, giving a grand total of €945.60!

The boys and girls worked very hard on the day, here they are in action!

The boys greeted people as they arrived.

Guess the name of the hen!

Guess how many eggs in the basket!

The girls helped with teas and coffees.

5th and 6th class selling cakes.

A big thank you to all the people who came along to support us on the day, despite the terrible weather!

All the money raised goes towards the cost of the school tour.

A special thank you also to the parents and pupils who baked such wonderful cakes, buns, biscuits and treats  and sent in books for the sale. Your support is much appreciated!

Tuesday February 12th was Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday. To celebrate we had a pancake party in school. The senior classes served pancakes to the younger boys and girls. There was chocolate, syrup and lemon and sugar to go on them. Here are some photos from the day. They were yummy!

Vintage Fun!

Date posted: 10th October 2012 | Category Blog, Fundraising Activities, History, Religious Education, Special Occasions |

On Thursday, 4th October, the children and staff of Wandesforde NS, welcomed Bishop Michael Burrows to the school.  Bishop Burrows had a busy day travelling around in vintage cars to raise money for the Bishop’s Appeal and all the work they do for people in other countries that are less fortunate than us.

We decided to dress up in vintage clothes to support the Bishop in his endeavours!  From the following pictures, you can see the variety of clothes and the efforts the children (and their parents!) went to, to be suitably attired for a vintage themed day!

We all sang a song called “Sing a song for Harvest” for the Bishop, parishioners and parents who also turned up to support this cause.  We raised a total of €200.  Thank you very much to everyone who supported this fun day!

Sponsored Cycle 2012!

Date posted: 11th June 2012 | Category Blog, Fundraising Activities, Junior Classroom, Physical Education, Senior Classroom, Sport |

On Saturday, 9th June 2012, the children, parents and almost 170 cyclists took to the roads for the annual sponsored cycle in aid of the school.  It was a wonderful day!  The sun was shining, music was playing and a great day was had by all!

The day started off with registration at 9 am.  There were 3 routes to choose from: a 40 km route, a 100km route and a 125km route!  The children cycled the famous 5km wellie race route with parents and teachers.  Along the way were various food and drink stops to take a well-deserved break!  When everyone came back, there was food, refreshments and ice-cream from the “Icicle Bicycle”!

Over €5,500 has been raised so far for the school.  A huge thank you to everyone who helped out in any way.  Thank you to the Parents’ Association for all their hard work over the past number of months!  Thanks to all those who stewarded the roads, cycled with the children, baked, prepared food, drove cars, manned food/drink stops, registered names, supervised children, fundraised, donated money, donated food/water and cleaned up afterwards!  We wish we could thank you all individually!  A special thank you to our sponsors “Cycletrax” for being there on the day and their donation to the school.

Thank you to all those who participated on the day, especially those from local cycling clubs!

After completing the cycle, the children and other participants received a certificate for all their efforts on the day.

Well done everybody.  We are looking forward to next year already!
