Senior Classroom

The 4th, 5th and 6th class are taught by Ms. Power. They have a large, airy, bright classroom with lots of space. With 5 computers and a laser printer in the classroom, they are often busy completing projects and looking up information on the internet. Like all the other classrooms, the senior classroom has an interactive whiteboard which the children thoroughly enjoy using!

4th, 5th and 6th Class have been learning about the 1916 Easter Rising. Local historian Michael Moylan came in to show us some clothes, weapons and discuss events which took place during the Easter Rising.

We got to look at some of the weapons used during the Rising

We also got to dress up in some of the clothes and act out some of the things which happened during the Rising

We really enjoyed our afternoon learning about The 1916 Rising!

Funky Kids – Senior Classroom

At the end of March, we will perform a show.  Every week Denis and Olivia come to our school on a Friday. They teach us dance moves and some songs. They pick a topic to teach each classroom.

We made our own costumes and with the help of Denis and Olivia, we painted a huge backdrop.

We also played games and acted out scenarios.  It has helped our self confidence and imagination skills.

We are all looking forward to the show at the end of March.

The Irish Famine

Date posted: 20th February 2011 | Category History, Senior Classroom | Tagged , |

For the past few weeks we have been learning about the Irish famine. We found out that half of the population of Ireland either emigrated or died. All of the potatoes died from blight and people sometimes had to eat grass and nettles.

1847 was the worst year of the famine, knwn as ‘Black ’47’. Some people had no option but to leave their homes and go to the workhouse for food and shelter.

We also read the book ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ which was a story about three children called Eily, Michael and Peggy O’Driscoll. The book tells about their life during the famine.
