Middle Classroom

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd class pupils are taught by Ms. Dennehy. We love to do art and craft, play sports and sing songs. Our favourite activity is baking! Here we are baking oatmeal raisin cookies. Everyone loves to help out mixing, weighing and of course eating them!

“The Willow Pattern”

Date posted: 12th May 2011 | Category Blog, Class Work, Middle Classroom, Visual Arts |

In 1st, 2nd & 3rd Class, we read a story called “The Story of the Willow Pattern” by Allan Drummond.  It is a story of a rich girl called Koong-Shee who lived in China and fell in love with a poor boy called Chang.  Her father was not very happy so they ran away.  Do you have any dishes or plates with the willow pattern on it? If so, have a look and see if you can spot the willow tree, a bridge, a boat, a pagoda (or palace) and two doves in the sky.  The story of Koong-Shee and Chang running away can be seen on the plates…

We designed our own Willow Plates in Art using blue paint on a white background.

Third Class completed research projects on topics of their choice.  They thoroughly enjoyed finding the information, putting the project together with lots of interesting facts and pictures.

The boys completed their projects on “Cattle” and “Sheep”.  As a teacher, I learned so much about these animals as I do not live on a farm!  Well done boys….

The girls completed their projects on “The Famine in Ireland”, “Dance” and “Bugs”.  They did wonderful work.  Well done girls!

Making spring daffodils in the Middle Classroom

With spring slow to arrive with snow and frost forecast, the Middle classroom decided to make their own daffodils and create their own bright springlike display.  Using paints and egg cartons, they painted the egg carton shapes and stuck them to their paintings which were prepared earlier.
